Freight Services

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) provides a range of reliable, efficient, and cost-effective freight transport solutions designed to meet the needs of industries, businesses, and regional trade.

Freight Services Offered

Train Load or Company Liner Service

This service offers the following:

  • Traffic for one customer on a single train load

  • Traffic from one siding to a single destination

  • Tailored timetable

  • Possible long term contractual agreement

  • Quality Service, no intermediate shunting and competitive pricing

Blockload Service

This train service is made up of consignments from one customer and/or siding with at least 10 wagons. The traffic then forms part of a full train from one major traffic centre to another. Its advantage is that there are no intermediate station activities such as shunting, and this affords the traffic shorter transit times.

Intermediate Train Service

An exciting development on NRZ Freight Service with a regional dimension. It offers a competitive service designed to improve transit times for traffic destined to Zimbabwe and in transit to regional countries. This is a reliable, high-speed, efficient, and cost-effective service.

Container Handling Service

This transport method combines various items into one standard unit bound for the same destination. It offers a convenient intermodal service between rail, road, and sea.

Strategic Cooperation

This service consists of partnerships between NRZ and private players.

The NRZ provides:

Private players also meet all costs relating to:

  • Fuel

  • Lubricants

Terminal Facilities

The following terminal facilities are available:

  • Privately Operated Sidings

  • Public Sidings

  • Private Sidings

Privately Operated Sidings

Privately Operated Sidings provide a full range of general handling, warehousing, break bulk, delivery, and distribution activities complementary to the rail service provided by NRZ.

Private Sidings

Private Sidings are for the exclusive use of the customer or a third party appointed by the customer and approved by the NRZ. Private Sidings are normally located within or adjacent to the premises of the client.

Public Sidings

Public Sidings are owned by NRZ and are available on a common-user basis to customers who wish to arrange the loading and offloading of their traffic. The track infrastructure is owned and maintained by NRZ.
