The Engineering Division of the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the country's railway network. Through its dedicated workshops and skilled engineering professionals, NRZ maintains, repairs, and refurbishes locomotives, wagons, coaches, and essential railway infrastructure that support passenger and freight transportation across Zimbabwe.

At the heart of these operations is Inter Rail Tech, NRZ's Strategic Business Unit responsible for delivering comprehensive engineering solutions. Operating from some of the largest integrated railway workshops in Southern Africa, the unit provides maintenance, fabrication, machining, foundry services, rewinding services, and equipment refurbishment for both the railway sector and other industries.

One of the key strengths of NRZ Engineering is its ability to overhaul locomotives and rolling stock locally. From engine overhauls and traction motor repairs to bogie refurbishment, brake system maintenance, wheelset reprofiling, and compressor servicing, these capabilities help extend the lifespan of railway assets while improving operational efficiency and reducing maintenance costs.

Beyond railway operations, NRZ Engineering also offers specialized services to external clients. Through modern workshops equipped with machining, fabrication, foundry, and welding facilities, the division supports mining, manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and industrial sectors with quality engineering solutions tailored to customer requirements.
